Blocking Process

January 13, 2010

Blocking the silk shawl

I’ve rinsed the shawl and spread it on a mattress pad. This bed only gets used when some of the kids, who are out of the house, come home. So, when they aren’t home, it doubles nicely as a blocking surface. The shawl doesn’t show up too well on the white surface, obviously.

Blocked dimensions: 65 by 37 inches.

I would love to raise mulberry silkworms, just for the experience, but do not have access to mulberry trees. However, wild silkworms are not all that different. In many ways, they are more fun because they are bigger and very colorful. To learn more about raising a native silkworm, you can read about my experiences HERE.
